Who gets 15 hours of free childcare and when do I apply?

Many families are eligible for 15 hours of free childcare per week for their 3 and 4-year-old children. This benefit is available to all families in England, and some families in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

To qualify for the free childcare, you must meet certain criteria, such as:

• Your child is aged 3 or 4 years old
• You and your partner must be working and earn a certain amount (at least 16 hours per week at the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage)
• You’re a single parent and earn a certain amount (at least 16 hours per week at the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage)
• Your child is disabled and receives Disability Living Allowance, or they have a statement of special educational needs or an Education, Health, and Care plan

To apply for the free childcare, you should contact your local council. They will be able to provide you with the necessary information and help you determine if you are eligible. You can apply up to 1 term in advance of when you want the childcare to start.
