UN chief urges probe into deadly Gaza aid convoy incident
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has called for a thorough investigation into the deadly incident involving a Gaza aid convoy. The convoy, which was carrying essential supplies for the people of Gaza, came under attack resulting in multiple casualties.
Guterres condemned the violence and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. He emphasized the need for a transparent and impartial investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and hold those responsible accountable.
“The targeting of humanitarian aid workers and the obstruction of humanitarian assistance is a violation of international law and must not go unpunished,” said Guterres in a statement.
The UN chief also called for all parties involved to respect the principles of humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
As the international community awaits the findings of the investigation, the Secretary-General reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and providing much-needed humanitarian assistance to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
