Germany Legalises Cannabis, But Makes it Hard to Buy
In a groundbreaking move, Germany has officially legalized the recreational use of cannabis. However, the new laws come with strict regulations that make it difficult for consumers to purchase the drug.
Under the new legislation, individuals over the age of 18 are allowed to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis for personal use. Public consumption is still prohibited, and driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal.
One of the most controversial aspects of the new law is the restriction on where cannabis can be purchased. Unlike in other countries where cannabis can be bought at dispensaries or through licensed vendors, Germany has limited sales to pharmacies only. This means that consumers will need to obtain a prescription from a doctor in order to purchase cannabis legally.
While the government hopes that these regulations will help to control the distribution of cannabis and prevent abuse, critics argue that the restrictions will only drive consumers to the black market where products are unregulated and potentially dangerous.
Despite the challenges, many in Germany are celebrating the legalization of cannabis as a step towards a more progressive and open-minded society. It remains to be seen how the new laws will impact the country’s drug culture and economy in the long run.
