Elon Musk sued over $128m unpaid severance at Twitter

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is facing a lawsuit over $128 million in unpaid severance from his brief stint on Twitter’s board of directors. The lawsuit, filed by a former Twitter employee, alleges that Musk failed to pay the agreed-upon severance package after stepping down from the board earlier this year.

According to court documents, Musk was promised a severance package of $128 million when he joined Twitter’s board in December 2021. However, when he resigned just over a month later following the social media platform’s decision to ban former President Donald Trump, Musk reportedly refused to pay the severance.

The lawsuit claims that Musk’s failure to honor the severance agreement has caused financial harm to the plaintiff, who is seeking damages for breach of contract. Musk has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit.

Twitter has also faced legal challenges over Musk’s brief tenure on the board, with some shareholders accusing the company of giving Musk special treatment and allowing him to bypass standard corporate governance procedures.

It remains to be seen how the lawsuit will unfold and what impact it may have on Musk’s reputation as a tech entrepreneur and innovator.
